Looking at the data chart confirmed my memory of the post-Christmas snowfall in 1969. I was ten years old. The area received 14 inches of snow between Christmas and New Years and then the temperatures warmed considerably. With the increased temperatures came rain--lots of rain. And we had the biggest flood on the Clinch that I could remember until April of 1977. The flood of '77 devastated communities along the Clinch, irreversibly changing the landscape to this day.
